About Me

My Story

I’m Sylvia Padilla Sullivan, LCSW, a licensed Psychotherapist and consultant based in San Diego.

As a young adult, I experienced depression and anxiety. The depression subsided but the anxiety lingered. Working with a wonderful therapist, I became stronger and better. Later in life, I became a therapist myself..then a mother. Having a child cracked me open wide–every joy, every wound, every challenge became raw like never before. More than any other experience, my son opened a door for true, profound healing. I believe our children, and other significant relationships-especially those that trigger us-are sent to us as a gift: We choose whether we will open the package and heal.

Take a deep breath, figure out what really matters.

Let me help.

My Experience

I have 17 years of experience providing specialized therapeutic services to those dealing with challenging life experiences-both children and adults. Initially, I worked in Sharp Mesa Vista’s Outpatient Unit providing therapy. Subsequently, I spent several years working for the Union of Pan Asian Communities and for Humboldt County Mental Health, where I provided therapy to children and families. More recently, I spent 9 years at the San Diego Unified School District providing therapy to pregnant and parenting teens, their children, and families. Currently, aside from my private practice, I volunteer at my child’s school in the area of parent and staff social health. I am passionate about this work because our social/emotional health as adults is what most influences the health of our children.
